Carpets from the Bijar region (Kurdistan, in Western Iran) have always been known for their beauty, intricate design, and amazing durability. They are often called the "Iron rugs of Persia". No other carpet made anywhere in the world can compare. Serafian's is the only source in New Mexico that carries a large selection of these fine carpets. Note - 8/6/2004 : The production of the truly fine Bijar carpets has declined in the last two years. There are almost no really great Bijars (50 raj or higher) being woven now. Most of the current production is of lower quality, with larger knots (30 to 40 raj) and poor color combinations.
